Battle of the dance

More than 200 dancers strutted their stuff in this year's Mario Gomes Hip Hop Dance Academy's Year End Dance Competition.

It was an opportunity for Mario Gomes Hip Hop Dance Academy’s (MGHHDA) dancers to show the skills they have acquired during the year.

At this year’s MGHHDA Year End Dance Competition at Mount Usambara 250 dancers participated in the final dance battles.

There were various dancing categories in which dancers as young as seven years participated.

Mario Gomes, owner of the dance academy said it was the second year he organised and held this competition.

“I was pretty excited about this year’s dance competition. I must say the dancers have surprised me a lot this year.”

The dancers come from different areas on the West Rand such as Roodepoort, Krugersdorp and Randfontein and this makes for some exciting competition said Gomes.

“It is very exciting to see how dancers from different backgrounds compete against each other. This competition makes beginners look like really good dancers and this is a great way for our dancers to keep on improving.”

He said it kept the more advanced dancers on their toes as the judges very easily could decide that the less advanced dancers were the better dancers during this competition.

Various prizes were awarded at the end of the competition, which made it worthwhile for the participants to give their best.

“I would like to say a big thanks to all the parents, family members and friends who came to support this dance passion. To all my staff, teachers and helpers, I’m blessed to have you as part of my team,” said Gomes.

“I hope you all enjoyed your time with us in 2014 and hope to see you back next year as 2015 is going to be insane.”
