Karate dojo awarded

The Traditional Karate Centre kicked dust in eight other karate dojos' faces for the top honours award.

A great honour was bestowed upon the Traditional Karate Centre at a tournament in Roodepoort recently.

There they were named dojo of the year after kicking dust in the faces of another eight karate dojos from across Gauteng in the martial arts style of Shotokan.

“This was our first Shotokan competition and we didn’t really expect to win, but we did work hard for it,” said sensei Marcel Hugli.

He said it was a great experience for the three teams of three members each across all ages and belts to get invited to the tournament and then finish on top.

“They competed for top honours, which gave each individual the opportunity to come out on top.”

Hugli said it was encouraging to see that they as a dojo are on the right track for the World Championships in August.
