Krugersdorp Bowling Club dominates on home turf
Lively competition and sportsmanship defined this year’s Gold Rush tournament and Sables Super 5’s finals, with KBC bowlers topping the podium and local spectators cheering them on.
The Krugersdorp Bowling Club (KBC) hosted two major tournaments within the last month and showed its strength on the green by grabbing some gold medals.
The annual Gold Rush Bowling Tournament attracted 24 teams to the club earlier in October, including seven visiting teams from outside the Sables district.
According to the club’s spokesperson, David Parker, the atmosphere was exciting as all the players took to the greens to become ‘Gold Miner of the Year’.
Krugersdorp’s Ensa team placed on top, with Jaco van Deventer, Martin Janse, Corrie Tagg, and Dylan van Deventer announced as Miners of the Year.

The KBC also hosted the Sables Super 5’s semi-finals and finals on October 26 for the district competition.
“The semi-finals were keenly contested, with all four sides producing some very exciting bowls. The teams from KBC played themselves into the final,” Parker added.
He continued that Johan Serfontein and Graeme Morton competed for the gold medal in an exhibition of some very crowd-pleasing bowls.
“Steve Maritz and the Maraisburg team really gave the spectators some great shots against Wynand du Preez and the Randfontein team,” Parker added.
Gold was awarded to Serfontein, silver to Morton, with bronze going to Maritz and Du Preez.
President of the KBC, Andy Selby, was once again very proud of having their players win gold and concluded that he was thankful that they had the honour of hosting these tournaments.
