VF Plus calls for vigilance

VF Plus provincial leader André Moss expressed concern following the attack and called on communities to remain vigilant, particularly as the festive season approaches.

Farmer sought in Malatjie murder investigation

In another case, police are looking for a Mooketsi farmer identified as a person of interest in the investigation into the death of Ngoako Machipi Malatjie, whose decomposed body was discovered in bushes on a farm in the Modjadjiskloof area.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that the provincial murder and robbery unit has taken over the investigation.

“A known local farmer is regarded as a person of interest in the case as investigations continue,” said Ledwaba.

The name of the farmer is known to the Herald.

Body discovered during search

Malatjie had previously been reported missing, prompting police to launch a search. On Friday, January 23, members of the K9 unit and search and rescue team were on the farm when they discovered the body of a man lying face down in bushes.

Police said the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition. Due to the condition of the body, police were unable to establish at the scene whether there were visible open wounds or other injuries.

Police appeal for information

Ledwaba said information obtained during the investigation indicated that Malatjie had allegedly last been seen with other people on the farm.

According to information provided to police, the individuals allegedly heard a gunshot and subsequently noticed blood on Malatjie’s back. They reportedly became frightened and fled, leaving him behind.

Police have appealed to anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation to contact Captain Phaladi Makola on 082 749 2233.
