Limpopo cricket star turns to golf during lockdown

Ben Vorster cricket star, Artwell Mokgolobotho, together with his friends enjoyed the game of golf at Fairview Golf Estate recently.

For the young Limpopo player it was his first time playing golf, but he immediately fell in love with it.

“I don’t know all the rules, I just tried my best and now know that I can play golf. “We were six, but I got fourth position, it was really fun.”

He told Herald that even though he is not trying to play golf professionally, he would like to continue playing in his spare time.

He denounced the perception that golf is for old people.

“I think that anyone can play golf, in fact women are also great golfers.

“People with the perception that it is difficult, don’t understand the sport.

“I also thought it was boring until I played,” added Mokgolobotho. Wikus Joubert got first position, Tapiwa Kuhlengisa became second, Tatenda Mabayah was third, Mokgolobotho was fourth, Zack Duvenhage was fifth and Handri Botha was last.

In March he was the only Limpopo cricketer who was selected to represent the Titans Academy at the Franchise Academy Week in Cape Town.

“The academy week was a great experience, because it is an opportunity for young and upcoming cricketers to get noticed by other teams.

“It is only the beginning, I’m hungry for more, I’m still gonna keep on pushing myself.

“However, I will definitely not neglect my school work, I need school as much as I need cricket,” explained.
