Overcoming the challenges of doing deliveries
Delivery services has become a part of our daily lives, but do we ever take the time to appreciate these unsung heroes.
Herald visited Adams Cafe’s delivery staff to find out more about their job and their challenges.
The friendly employees told the Herald that since the beginning of lockdown, the demand for deliveries has increased substantially, keeping them very busy.
But they are not complaining as it is way for them to provide for their families.
Patrick Bsimwa of Congolese decend has been working for the eatery only for a few days. He said he loves his job, because he gets to put a smile on people’s faces on daily basis.

A hairstylist by profession, he was forced to look for a job in the delivery sector after the lockdown regulations prevented hair salons to operate.
Bsimwa and his colleagues say that they do come across people who do not appreciate that they put their lives on the line when they get onto their motorcycles.
“We are front line workers too, we worked right through the lockdown. Every time we go to a persons’ home or work place, we don’t know who we are going to meet.
“We follow the regulations to protect ourselves and our clients, but we don’t know if the person we are serving is sick or not. But we do it anyway because we love our jobs,” they explained. Prince Sekgobela from Dan village who has been working for Adams since 2014, asked clients be more patient.

“Our job is to deliver to our customers on time. We understand that they are hungry, but we ask that they have little patience with us.
“Sometimes people insult us for being a bit late. They don’t understand the process of trying to deliver their food hot and as soon as possible.
“We have to drive safely and be extra cautious. Sometimes we are given the wrong addresses and that cause a delay in the order,” he said.
These men leave their personal challenges at home in order to hand over food to their clients and they deserve to be celebrated for their hard work.
