Newcastle Airport in KZN will be officially opened next week

The Newcastle Municipality has dispatched invitations for the official opening of the Newcastle Airport facility next Wednesday.

Newcastle Airport is to be officially opened next Wednesday (April 17), Newcastle Advertiser reports.

An invitation for this occasion was sent by Newcastle Municipality, with the slogan ‘growing Newcastle together’.

The launch is set for 8 am at the airport facility.

The Newcastle Airport made headlines in January this year, following complaints from pilots after fuel reserves at the facility ran dry.

In March the municipal officials confirmed a national tender had gone out, inviting airline companies to bring chartered flight services to the facility.

“We have already begun calls for SA Airlink to occupy the airport,” said Newcastle Municipality’s Head of Communications, Dr Dumisani Thabethe.

“That’s the action we are currently busy with at the moment. We are also finalising the current snags and have achieved practical completion.”
