Former Mopani hardware worker in court for R600k fraud

A 33-year-old former hardware store employee from Mopani is expected in court today for 26 fraudulent transactions worth over R600 000.

LIMPOPO –  A 33-year-old former employee of a hardware store in Sekgosese is set to appear before the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court today (April 7) on fraud charges.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the suspect was arrested on Sunday in the Makhado policing area following the issuance of a warrant of arrest by the Polokwane High Court.

Ledwaba said the arrest stems from an incident in August 2024, when the suspect allegedly generated fake invoices for customers while still employed at the hardware store.

Instead of depositing payments into the business account, he reportedly misappropriated the funds for his own benefit.

A police investigation has since uncovered 26 fraudulent transactions, with a total estimated value exceeding R600 000, according to Ledwaba.

The suspect is expected to make his first court appearance today, where bail will likely be discussed.

Investigations are ongoing.
