HIGH School Merensky takes pride in a well known former Plasie, Mosibudi Rasethaba (Rassie) -class of 2011.
He is a twenty-one year old second year student who is currently studying towards achieving a degree in BA Psychology.
With the 2014/2015 SRC elections taking place at UP, he saw this as an opportunity to give back to the University by standing in the elections.
He was elected as 2014/2015 SRC president in the elections held across all UP campuses.
He feels that this a platform to not only develop his leadership skills, but bring about positive and effective change for all students.
He discovered his passion for leadership and community engagement early whilst still in primary school in Polokwane.
He was not only head boy, but was also involved in multiple community projects, which included volunteering at both the SPCA and local orphanages.
According to Rassie, his love and passion for community engagement continued into his high school years at Merensky.
Here he co-founded a Christian learner’s movement called GoMAD (Make a Difference) which still exists.
This movement aims to empower the learners with knowledge of biblical teachings and provide them with the opportunity to be actively involved in the community through outreaches.
At Plasieland he was also involved in a book club that offered assistance to under-privileged schools in the area by donating books and teaching the pupils how to read.
He was also Captain of Merensky’s athletics team, and well known for his motto: “If you can think it, you can do it”.
