Police officer shot and killed

A police warrant officer was shot and killed at Ga-Matipane village in Bolobedu on Sunday evening.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Ronel Otto said Warrant officer Godfrey Mantlhake (44) who was attached to the Crime Prevention Unit at the Bolobedu Police Station was killed at around 19:00.

Otto said Mantlhake and his girlfriend were standing next to his vehicle in the street when two unknown men approached them.

“ They pulled out fire-arms and shot Mantlhake three times in the head and chest before fleeing,” said Otto. The motive for the attack is not known.

Police are appealing to anybody who might have witnessed the attack, or anyone who might have more information on the suspects to provide it to the investigating officer, Major Shingange at 078 531 8184 or 082 469 2625.
