Limpopo Health performs 28 orthopaedic operations in Mopani

The Limpopo Department of Health performed 28 orthopaedic operations at Letaba and Van Velden hospitals during an outreach weekend.

LIMPOPO – The Limpopo Department of Health performed 28 orthopaedic operations during an outreach weekend at two hospitals in the Mopani district on October 17 and 18.

The operations were aimed at improving access to specialised orthopaedic care and reducing the backlog of patients awaiting surgery.

Where the operations took place

At Letaba Hospital outside Nkowankowa, medical teams performed 18 operations to treat trauma-related fractures.

A further 10 hip and knee replacement procedures were carried out at Van Velden Hospital in Tzaneen.

Access to specialised treatment closer to home

Departmental spokesperson Neil Shikwambana said the achievement reflected the department’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery and ensure patients had timely access to specialised treatment closer to home.

Health MEC Eddie Maila commended the specialists and healthcare teams for their dedication and efforts to improve patients’ quality of life across the province.

Outreach continues

The Rural Health Matters outreach programme will continue with other medical disciplines in the Mopani district until October 30.
