Rotaba Home in a state

The Rotaba Home for pensioners in Modjadjiskloof are in an awful state.

Letaba Herald received several complaints about Rotaba.

There is no lights after dark, the old people have to take out their garbage bags themselves, the garden is not looked after, the over-all area is bushy which makes it dangerous and the sewage drain needs cleaning.

Rotaba belonged to the Rotary club but the municipality took over from them.

The municipality is responsible for the maintenance of the garden, sewer and electricity.

The municipal spokesperson, Lovers Maenetje, said “The challenge we are experiencing as a municipality is shortage of staff. The home needs at least three people to be maintaining it on a regular basis as it has a lot of work, with the trees making it difficult for the person currently working there to effectively maintain the home to a perfect standard.”

Futhermore, the municipality’s electricity team will attend to the lights as soon as possible.

Maenetje said the safety of the elderly people are a big concern.

She also urged residents to communicate with the municipality when it comes to service delivery needs from Rotaba.
