37 arrested in police operation

The police task team arrested 37 suspects, confiscated drugs, recovered firearms and a suspected stolen motor vehicle in the Tzaneen cluster policing area last week.

The suspects aged between 21 and 48 years old face various charges ranging from possession of dagga, possession of firearm and ammunition without license, carjacking, armed robbery, common robbery, attempted murder, and murder to house robberies.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, said the suspect were arrested at crime hotspots within Tzaneen, Bolobedu, Maake, Letsitele, Ritavi, Mokwakwaila and Modjadjiskloof.

Ngoepe said illegal items recovered and confiscated include 10 bags of dagga with a street value of R 60 000, two unlicensed firearms with two magazines and 59 rounds of ammunition and a stolen Nissan Hard Body.

The suspects were appearing in various magistrate’s courts at the time of going to press.

“This operation will continue until all the crime hotspots are closed. Police are requesting information from members of the community about any criminal activities taking place in and around their areas,” said Ngoepe.
