“Sleepy” rapist to re-appear in court soon

A 26 year-old man who was arrested for raping a 22 year-old woman and later fell asleep, will appear before the Bolobedu Magistrate Court on a charge of rape next Friday.

The incident occurred on Monday morning in Masakhaneng section of Ga-Kgapane township.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, said it is alleged that the suspect forcefully dragged the victim to the nearby bushes and raped her. After the ordeal the suspect fell asleep and the victim managed to escape and called the police. “The suspect was immediately arrested while still sleeping,” said Ngoepe.

His first court appearance was on Tuesday and his case was postponed to next Friday pending further investigations.

Meanwhile, the police in Modjadjiskloof have launched a massive manhunt for suspects who are involved in the brutal killing of a 35 year-old woman.

Ngoepe said the incident took place at Montina Farm in Driehoek near Modjadjiskloof, where the body of the deceased was found lying next to the road with multiple stab wounds on her half naked body.

Ngoepe said the motive of the killing is still unknown and it is not clear yet whether the victim was raped or not and the post-mortem will determine that.

The suspects in this matter is still unknown.
