Frans du Toit sports organiser takes charge of Limpopo schools’ cricket

Sean Knoetze of Frans du Toit High School has been appointed manager of all Limpopo schools' cricket teams as the province targets Platinum League promotion.

PHALABORWA – Frans du Toit High School sports organiser Sean Knoetze has been promoted from manager of the Limpopo u/16 cricket team to manager of all Limpopo schools’ cricket teams.

Knoetze said he was honoured by the appointment and the confidence placed in him. His main goal is to help Limpopo progress from the Gold League to the Platinum League, where the country’s top provincial teams compete.

“Limpopo has the talent. What our players need is more experience and game time.”

“Our u/16 team can compete with the best in the country. We finished second last year and narrowly missed promotion to the Platinum League. I believe we can do even better this year,” he said.

Both the boys’ and girls’ teams are preparing for the national schools’ cricket championships, which will take place at various venues across the country in December. The week-long tournaments will see teams competing for top honours, with Gold League winners earning promotion to the Platinum League.

Growing cricket in Limpopo

Knoetze has previously emphasised the importance of growing cricket in Limpopo and raising its profile alongside rugby and other major sporting codes. He hopes to develop competitive provincial teams capable of challenging leading cricket schools, including those in Pretoria.

Originally from Pretoria, Knoetze played first-team cricket at Wonderboom High School before obtaining a qualification in sports management from the former Centurion Academy, now NewBridge Institute College. He also holds a qualification in project management, which he says has helped him in his administrative and leadership roles.
