UPDATE: Two suspects questioned in Khoza murder case

Police in Phalaborwa have taken in two suspects for questioning in relation to the murder of prominent Dr Lawrence Basil Khoza’s.

No one had officially been arrested, police spokesperson Elvis Mongwe said.

According to Mongwe, the police were in the process of questioning two males who may have information or who are linked to Dr Lawrence Basil Khoza’s (63) murder.

He was killed on Thursday, August 25 at about 23:00 after allegedly being followed by two suspects from Standard Bank through the walk-through in the CBD next to Nice Price Store.

Khoza was hit by an unknown hard object on the back of his head and collapsed and died at the scene.

After information was received two suspects were taken for questioning.

The SAPS is still appealing to the community to assist them with any information that will help them make an arrest.

“We have not arrested anyone although the investigation is going very well,” Mongwe says.

A purse with a wallet and cash were stolen. A memorial service was held at the Lulekani Stadium on Thursday.

He became a Ward Councillor for Phalaborwa and later became Chief Whip for the ANC between 1995 and 2000.

He was appointed Chairperson for Phalaborwa Rotary Club in 1994 to 1995.

In 2001 to 2002 his proactive social welfare contributions were celebrated with his re-election as the chairperson of the Phalaborwa Rotary Club.

He was still actively involved in the Club prior to his tragic death.

He is survived by his loving wife, daughters, sons, grand children, both parents, three sisters and both brothers.
