Letaba FPA bans all burning as high winds sweep in today
The FPA says even burning permits issued earlier this week must now be closely monitored, as its total ban stays in place through the weekend.
LIMPOPO – The Letaba Fire Protection Association (FPA) has issued a warning for high winds expected today, September 4, as a cold front moves through the region, prompting a total ban on burning for the rest of the day and over the weekend.
Cold front driving conditions across the country
The warning comes as a cut-off low pressure system moves across South Africa, with the South African Weather Service (SAWS) confirming damaging winds and a sharp temperature drop are affecting several provinces from Friday into the weekend.
SAWS has also flagged extremely high fire danger conditions in parts of Limpopo’s Blouberg Local Municipality, underscoring the elevated fire risk across the province during this period.
All burning suspended, including recent permits
According to the FPA, no burning of any sort will be permitted until further notice. This includes special burning permits issued over the past week, which must be closely monitored even though they have already taken place.
Fire teams on standby
All landowner fire teams have been placed on standby, and the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any fires immediately.
