LETSITELE: Residents narrow escape after petrol tanker caught fire

What can be described as a harrowing experience played itself out in Letsitele on Wednesday night when a petrol tanker from Zimbabwe caught fire at the four-way stop in town.

A resident, Abrie Van Rooyen, heard frantic screams and found the driver of the truck outside searching for help.

Upon asking, the driver informed Van Rooyen that the fire extinguisher on the truck was already used when it caught fire previously, on the same trip.

Van Rooyen, together with the driver, rushed to the police station to call the necessary emergency services and fire department.

In the meantime, Van Rooyen and Letsitele CPF members took it upon themselves to warn other residents close by to evacuate their homes and keep a safe distance from the truck.
