Parents urged to visit circuit offices before January

The Department of Education in Limpopo have sent out a statement to urge all parents whose children have not been admitted to visit their circuit offices for further assistance before 2017 school year starts in January.

The spokesperson for the department, Dr Naledzani Rasila, said the problems currently facing the department are that some parents are trying to persuade the schools to admit their children even though they have been informed they are full to their capacity.

He added that some parents take their children to schools which are not nearer to their homes or work addresses as per circular 67 of 2016.

“Parents continue to visit the circuit offices to choose schools when such schools are full instead of cooperating with circuit offices to assist place learners in other neighbouring schools with space. Some are reluctant to produce and justify needed document for proof and claim they are experiencing elements of discrimination, hatred based on languages, race or religion. But they struggle to produce evidence,” he said.

Rasila further said some parents do not bother going to circuit offices to get assistance but start by giving the wrong information through different platforms.

“For example they start at our media houses and go viral through social media. To assist our nation, it is a humble request that our beloved parents and guardians finalise through the circuit offices all the remaining admission challenges for 2017,” added Rasila.

He stressed that the Department does not want to see a learner without a school in 2017.
