Factory workers graduates
The workers, 15 from Houers and eight from Stevens Lumber Mills participated in a one-year course as part of their on the job training facilitated by Skills Unlimited and funded by the Fibre Processing & Manufacturing Sector Education and Training Authority (FP&MSETA).
Addressing graduates, the Chief Executive Officer of Skills Unlimited, Dr Lukas “LM” Grobler said the accredited programme prepared workers for middle management positions and supervisory skills.
He said that the mere fact that companies agree to do training on their sites show the company’s seriousness about their workforce and about up skilling their workforce.
“Workers got an opportunity to get an acknowledged qualification while at work. It is as good as if you were studying at any TVET College, the difference is you are not paying for it. You are not required to look for a company to do your practical. You have everything here in the workplace,” said Grobler.

“Please never get too tired to implement training at your workplaces,” appealed Grobler.
He added that the certificate received by graduates is recognized all over the country and is endorsed by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and the Department of Higher Education.
“People can take away your house, they can take your clothes, but they can’t take away your education. Do all courses you can. Keep on learning. One day your efforts will pay off,” he urged the graduates.
The graduates expressed appreciation to the employers and Skills Unlimited for affording the an opportunity to further their education.
