TZANEEN: Notorious cash-card thief nabbed at Lifestyle Centre

A suspected ATM card thief was arrested at Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre by the on-site security guards on Saturday.

A ‘well known’ ATM card thief suspect was arrested on Saturday by on-site security guards.

This comes as a result of various investigations, police participation and information received from the public.

“Tzaneen Lifestyle has been pro-active in applying new strategies to fight crime over the Christmas season,’ Alida Fraser general manager of Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre said.

According to information the suspect was scouting the surroundings and customers at the ATM arcade for potential victims when he was approached by the security guards on site.

Leading to a small altercation where the suspect produced a knife.

The suspect ran towards the parking area where security and cleaning staff caught up with him.

He was arrested and handed over to the Tzaneen Police.

‘A case of assault with a deadly weapon was opened against the suspect,’ said Fraser.

“We are proud to say that our guard’s vigilant, quick action led to the arrest which ultimately ensures customers can shop in a safe environment at Tzaneen Lifestyle. Credit to the SA Police that have been instrumental in training and assisting staff and guards at the centre to fight crime over the Christmas period. We are also glad to report that the guard was discharged  from hospital the same day.” says Fraser.

She also continued by saying that this is a clear indication that pro-active steps are taken in the community towards crime fighting, and also an indication that this festive season will be a safe shopping experience at Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre.
