Molopa Foundation plans charity golf day for Phalaborwa

A Phalaborwa-based organisation hopes to launch a charity golf day next year to support community projects, boost the local economy and promote the town's tourism potential.

LIMPOPO – Phalaborwa could soon become a gathering point for golf enthusiasts, business stakeholders and tourists as the Molopa Foundation sets its sights on hosting its own charity golf day in May 2027.

The Phalaborwa-based non-profit organisation (NPO) plans to use the event to expand its community development initiatives, stimulate local economic activity and showcase the town’s tourism potential to visitors from Gauteng and other provinces.

The announcement was made by foundation representative Portia Morai during the second annual Bobby Motaung Charity Golf Day, held at Eye of Africa in Gauteng on Wednesday, October 28, where the Molopa Foundation participated as a waterhole sponsor.

Supporting community initiatives

Demonstrating its commitment to supporting organisations making a difference in communities, the foundation donated R100 000 to the Bobby Motaung Foundation to support its ongoing community development work.

The charity golf day attracted 38 fourball teams and brought together golfers, foundations and other stakeholders, creating an opportunity for networking, collaboration and the exchange of ideas on community development.

The Molopa Foundation’s team comprised Michael Ernery, Dr Tiny Mhinga, Morgan Makhubela, Thokozani Kunene and Xolani Khumalo. In a surprise gesture of appreciation, the founder, Lincoln Molopa, rewarded the five golfers with R20 000 each in recognition of their participation and contribution to representing the foundation.

One of the golfers, Michael Ernery, described the opportunity to represent the organisation at the charity event as a dream-changing experience.

“When great causes come together in the interests of society, the world becomes a better place,” he said.

Meanwhile, Morai said the foundation was grateful for the invitation, describing the event as an important platform for organisations to unite in addressing challenges affecting communities.

She said the participation also provided an opportunity for the relatively young organisation to learn from other foundations and build partnerships that could strengthen its work.

Eyes on Phalaborwa golf day

Looking ahead to 2027, Morai revealed that the foundation was planning to host its own golf day in Phalaborwa around May, although further details are yet to be announced.

She said the event would create economic development opportunities for the town while promoting its tourism potential by attracting visitors from other provinces.

“We would like to thank the Bobby Motaung Foundation for hosting such a well-organised event. We also extend our appreciation to the golfers who visited our waterhole and brought so much enthusiasm and positive messages. Their support made the experience truly memorable,” she said.
