Tour de Limpopo will be held in April.

The tournament will host cyclists from all over the world.

The event will kick off on April 23 in Polokwane.

The contenders will head east in the direction of Tzaneen where they will have to stay for three days before heading back to the capital on April 26 to finish the race at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

It will be the first international road cycling stage to be held in Limpopo. The event will include two races — Elite and Veterans. Both races have almost identical routes and will only differ from each other by some rules.

According to regulations of the Elite race, each team should include six athletes and three support crew members.

The tour will be limited to a maximum of 20 Elite teams trying to show their best results.

Athletes will race it out for; general classification, sprinters jersey, king of the mountain jersey, best young rider and most aggressive rider, as well as overall team classification.

The Veterans’ teams will also consist of six riders assisted by a support crew made of three people. The minimum age limit for the participation in the Veteran race is 19 years.

The tournament organizers also demand that each team are represented by black riders by at least 50 percent. Thus, South African authorities want to promote diversity by providing underrepresented social groups with a platform to realize their potential.

The Tour de Limpopo will not only provide live broadcasting of this exciting competition to spectators, it will also give the province the opportunity to showcase its beauty and attract tourists from all over the world.
