Workers end wage strike

Khulani Timbers employees in Modjadjiskloof ended a week-long strike following an agreement with management over wages.

The workers, who are members of Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing,Wood and Allied Workers Union (CEPPWAWU) returned to work last Wednesday after management agreed to increase their salaries. CEPPWAWU shop steward, Fidah Molewa said about 192 workers in the wood factory downed tools a week ago after wage negotiations with management failed to yield positive results.

“During the strike we picketed outside the factory until management agreed to return to the negotiations table. We reached an agreement on salary increment on Tuesday,” said Molewa.

Khulani Timbers financial director, Harry Kruger confirmed that the strike ended following successful wage negotiations.
