Mr and Miss Merensky crowned

On September 5 a jam-packed school hall, decorated with decor reminiscent of an enchanted forest, played host to four esteemed judges and 22 popular grade 11 contestants for this years’ Mr and Miss Merensky pageant.

In the run up to the final competition the contestants had to contribute to various worthy causes in the Tzaneen area. This year the ‘top debutant’ title was also up for grabs, awarded to the best fundraiser.

Bouwer Bosch, well known singer-songwriter from the band, Straatligkinders, was a superb Master of Ceremonies. His wit and relaxed vibe contributed to a most enjoyable evening.

The group introduced themselves with a modern dance item, whereafter every couple took to the catwalk in casual wear, followed by formal evening attire.

One of the highlights of the evening was when the 2017 sêrgroup joined Bouwer Bosch on stage to perform his hit-song, ‘Sy klink soos lente’.

The atmosphere was tangible when the winners were announced. The new Mr Merensky for 2017 is Delux Jooste with Miss Merensky, Ciné Venter (also Miss Personality), by his side.

The title of 1st Princess went to Bernalee Benade, who is also Miss Photogenic. Francois Smit was 1st Prince.

Title carriers of 2nd Prince and Princess were Jéhan Goosen and Donné Oosthuizen (also bearing the new title of top debutant).

Mr Photogenic is no one else than tall, dark and handsome, Heine Booysen with Dennis du Plessis walking away as Mr Personality.
