RITAVI: Culpable homicide under investigation

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after six people died in a car crash on the R36 on October 1.

Police in Ritavi, outside Tzaneen, are investigating a case of culpable homicide which occurred along the Tzaneen and Lydenburg road (R36) next to Mokgolobotho Village, where a motor vehicle carrying six occupants lost control and overturned.

It is alleged that on Sunday, October 1 around 23:00, a Mahindra Bollero overturned and five people including an 8 year-old child died on the scene and one individual was taken to Ritavi Hospital where he later died.

The deceased were identified as follows:

  • Phillemon Sonti Mankondo (Male, 53).
  • The driver, Patrick Matome Maowashe (Male, 46).
  • Simon Segwape (Male, 8).
  • Mphekwane Mmoye Ramalepe (Male, 24).
  • Victor Segwape (Male, 33).

The sixth deceased individual’s identity, who is also a male, is still unknown.

Further investigations revealed that all occupants were from Mopye Village in Bolobedu outside Tzaneen and are all relatives.

“The cause of the accident is still unknown, but police investigations will tell,” said Lt. Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo Police Spokesperson.
