LETSITELE: Man (54) arrested for rape

Letsitele SAPS have arrested a 54 years old male suspect for rape.

It is alleged that the woman (26), an employee at one of the farms around Letsitele policing area was busy doing her general labour when she was requested to assist her supervisor, taking some containers containing diesel to a storeroom during mid day.

It is further alleged that while in the storeroom the suspect took out a screwdriver,  threatened the victim with it before raping her.

After the rape, the victim was left at the workshop. She managed to run to the police station to lay a charge against the suspect, who was later arrested.

The suspect will appear at Ritavi Magistrate  court today October 27.

This arrest comes after the Tzaneen Cluster Commander Maj General Mathebula tasked police in all the stations within the jurisdiction under her command to take precautionary measures on cases of rape after there was a concern in crime escalation of such nature, which threatens the peace of the vulnerable women and children within the cluster at large.

Police are promising to tighten their hands to ensure  that whoever is caught in contravention of the law be dealt with accordingly.

“We will not rest until all the perpetrators are brought to the books. We would like to see all women and children walk in this country freely without fear.”
