Rape suspect appears before court

A 33 year-old man who was arrested and charged with rape appeared before the Hoedspruit Periodic Court on Thursday, November 9.

“According to information, the complainant was at a market in the Oaks Village when she realised it was getting late, she then asked the suspect for a lift home,” stated Sergeant Livhuwani Mulaudzi, the Hoedspruit Police Spokeswoman.

It is alleged the suspect agreed to take her home. Upon arrival, the victim exited the vehicle and the suspect followed her.

“It is believed that the victim thought that the suspect wanted to assure her safety, she did not think he would harm her. When the victim entered her room, the suspect also forced himself inside and started acting violent towards the victim,” added Mulaudzi.

Following this, the man began forcefully undressing the suspect then raped her. The suspect was arrested on November 6 and remains in police custody.
