GIYANI: Police under investigation for allegedly firing at protesters

Two cases have been opened against police by members of a protest for allegedly opening fire on the protesters.

The R81 road between Giyani and Malamulele which was blocked by members of various communities; Xikukwani, Mavalani, Bonwani, Mbatlo, Xivulani and Nwa Dzekudzeku villages, was cleared last night by the Public Order Police.

A case of public violence was opened against the protesters and arrests will be made soon.

Meanwhile, two cases were opened by protesters on allegations that they were shot at by police.

The case has since been taken over by the IPID for further investigations.

“The situation is quiet this morning but it is still being monitored by the Public Order Police,” said Lt. Col Moatshe Ngoepe.
