Phalaborwa: Beheaded woman’s brothers arrested for her murder

According to police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, two suspects, aged 29 and 31-years-old, who are both the deceased’s younger brothers, were arrested and positively linked to the beheading of 33-year-old, Irene Mopai, on 26 February.

“They were identified as Ishmael Mopai aged 28 and Michael Mopai aged 31 both from Matiko Xikaya village,” Ngoepe said.

Ngoepe added that subsequent to the arrest, the deceased’s head was recovered in the nearby bushes.

The suspects appeared before the Lulekani Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday a charge of murder.

They were both denied bail and the case is postponed to March 8.

“The preliminary investigations have since revealed that the motive behind this incident is believed to be domestic related dispute,” according to Ngoepe.
