Phalaborwa’s Ryan Coetzee clinches bronze at Commonwealth Games

Phalaborwa’s Ryan Coetzee made history today by becoming the first Phalaborwa swimmer to clinch a medal in the commonwealth Games in the men’s 50m butterfly at Gold Coast.
He finished third behind Tabogo’s Dylan Carter and South African gold medallist Chad le Clos, who won the event by a time of 23.37 seconds.

Coetzee finished second behind Gold medallist Chad Le Clos in Thursday’s semi-final race. Le Clos won with a time of 23.53 seconds, despite Ryan Coetzee being a few split seconds behind him with a time of 23.79.
“Hey man it feels pretty awesome, it’s a dream come true,” Coetzee told the Herald.
The 23-year-old from Phalaborwa said his goal was the gold medal, but at the end of the day any medal is fantastic.

“Any medal is fantastic because it is my first Commonwealth Games,” he added.
