GTM launches anti-corruption hotline

In an effort to eradicate corruption and promote integrity, the Greater Tzaneen Municipality launched an anti-fraud and corruption hotline on Friday.

The anti-fraud and corruption 24 hour toll-free hotline number– 0800 44 66 44 – allows residents to report corrupt and fraudulent activities within the municipality.

The Mayor, Maripe Mangena, said the hotline accepts tips and complaints from all sources about fraud, corruption and theft at the municipality.

Mangena said, received complaints of theft, fraud and corruption will be investigated and referred to the law enforcement agencies to be dealt with. He said corruption hinders development and steals from the poor who would otherwise not get services as a result.

He urged residents to strictly use the hotline for reporting on cases of fraud, theft and corruption only. Mangena warned against using the hotline for ulterior motives rather help the municipality fight fraud and corruption.

“The public is encouraged to report corrupt activities by any municipal official and politician regardless of their position,” appealed Mangena.

Mangena added that the hotline will go a long way in exposing fraud and corruption, enhance ethics, integrity and accountability within the municipality.

The Mopani District Municipality Councillor Nyiko Baloyi commended, the Mayor Maripe Mangena for the bold initiative taken to increase public confidence in the municipality.

Baloyi said, by launching the hotline the municipality has demonstrated its commitment to fight fraud and corruption.

He appealed to other local municipalities to follow the direction taken by the Greater Tzaneen Municipality and launch the ant-fraud and corruption hotlines.

Any incidents of corruption, fraud and theft at the municipality can be reported to the 0800 44 66 44.
