GRAVELOTTE: Suspects apprehended stealing emerald stones during robbery at mine

Armed suspects were apprehended after they stole more than R700 000 worth of emerald stones and other valuable items at Emerald Mine.

According to the information, four armed suspects intruded into the Mine manager’s house late on Wednesday afternoon.

They were robbed of emerald stones, cellphones, car and house keys at gun point before they fled the scene.

The Police were notified and reacted swiftly.

“A joint manhunt operation composed of various police units, search and rescue teams,  supported by the Ofcolaco Community Police Forum and private helicopters was immediately activated.” Coll Moatshe Ngeope said.

During this operation, three suspects aged between 25 and 33 were apprehended.

“The fourth suspect jumped into an old mine shaft to evade arrest. The process of removing him is still unfolding,” according to Ngeope.

The suspects will appear before the Phalaborwa Magistrate Court soon.
