ZZ2 assists in upkeep of provincial roads

A strategic partnership agreement between ZZ2 and the Road Agency of Limpopo (RAL) has contributed to the upkeep of roads in the province.

A major project is underway on the road between Houtbosdorp Road and Magoebaskloof where there is a huge embankment failure that has developed over years. Engineers from ZZ2 in conjunction with engineers from RAL have started work to rebuild this embankment known as Cloudlands.

The first of the roads which has been maintained since the agreement was signed in May 2016, was the R521 between Pontdrif and Alldays.

It included the filling of potholes, clearing of road shoulders, erection of road signs and resurfacing of the road. Another role player who contributed to the project was Limpopo Citrus. Tommie van Zyl, CEO of ZZ2, said this private-public partnership initiative is an inspiring cooperation plan between business and the government.“It is an example of how we can build South Africa by working together in an authentic and principled way,” he said. ZZ2 was also involved in the clearing of shoulders on the R525, the road east of Musina leading to Pafuri and also maintaining several other roads i.e. the Malaladrift and Houtbosdorp Roads.

“As a responsible corporate citizen using the road infrastructure, it is important to ZZ2 to be involved in the maintenance of the roads in the areas where we operate,” said Johannes Grobler, Technical Director of ZZ2.

The RAL, under the leadership of their Chief Executive, Maselaganye Matji, received a clean audit report last year and is an example of how state-owned agencies should be run, Grobler said.

“Based on this experience, ZZ2 is looking forward to build on this relationship and extend it to other roads in the province and include other willing partners and contributors,” concluded Grobler.
