TZANEEN: Robbers escape with undisclosed amount of money

According to witnesses, the robbery occurred near the Tzaneen Airfield at around 19:00.

An unknown number of criminals travelling in three vehicles escaped with an undisclosed amount of money after blowing up a cash truck on the R71 between Tarentaalrand and Letsitele on Monday evening, December 3.

According to witnesses, the robbery occurred near the Tzaneen Airfield at around 19:00.

They say after taking the cash, the robbers drove away in a Navy Blue Navara, a white Ford Focus, and a Volvo Hatchback. They took the Giyani road and turned to Bolobedu where they were last seen at Mohlakamosoma Village.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Brenda Mudirilli said that a bakkie rammed the amoured cash truck off the road on the R71 between Letsitele and Tzaneen.

“Unknown number of suspects then pointed the two security guards with firearms, disarmed them, used explosives to blow up the cash van then fled the scene in three vehicles with an undisclosed amount of cash,” said Mudirilli.

Col Moatshe Ngeope confirmed to the Herald that no more information can be disclosed.

“The investigation is in a sensitive stage,” he said.
