TZANEEN: Rescued dog fighting for full recovery at SPCA
The pup, yet to be named, is on the road to recovery.
THE LETABA HERALD has received an update on the starving dog the SPCA found and rescued at a local nursery last week in a skeletal condition.

“He had a few sores on his back that we are busy treating. They are starting to heal nicely,” explained Ellie Potgieter, an inspector at the Letaba SPCA.
To help with his recovery they are giving him “boost injections” of vital vitamins – this has helped bring back a bit of color to his complexion, noted Potgieter.
“He is on a three small meals a day plan to allow his stomach to digest the nutrients,” said Potgieter.
She went on to explain that this was due to the fact that he was not able to get food regularly before they rescued him, and this in turn made his stomach shrink.
They have him on soft food, but are incorporating normal dog food into his diet.
He is a fighter and has been able to walk around the premises, according to the SPCA.
Potgieter also told the HERALD that they are focusing on getting his immune system built up before administering any vaccinations – the reason behind this is that if they inject him with the vaccination before his immune system is stronger it might affect him negatively and his body might not be able to fight against the weakened version of the virus.
“He is extremely friendly and playful,” said Potgieter.
They are optimistic in his recovery.
The Letaba SPCA is very thankful for all the donations that people have made to their cause.
