Phalaborwa: Mother allegedly kills daughter who ‘stole money,’ is denied bail

The suspect was arrested for allegedly killing her 8 year old daughter.

Masingita Venecia Mabunda (31), who is being charged with murder of her 8-year-old daughter, appeared before the Namakgale Magistrate Court today, Wednesday July 24.

She was denied bail and the case was postponed to August 29, for further police investigations.

The suspect was arrested for allegedly killing her daughter, Varsity Leah Mabunda, during an incident that occurred at Ga-Makhushane village in the outskirts of Namakgale Township.

According to Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Varsity Leah was allegedly assaulted with various objects, as the mother accused the child of stealing her money, and this ultimately led to her death.

According to statement from the police, both they and the medical emergency services were contacted and responded immediately and on arrival, Varsity Leah Mabunda was found lying dead with multiple injuries throughout her body.

The police also said that the mother ran away soon after the incident, but the Police launched a search operation until she was arrested during the day at her hiding area.
