Snack on these to keep the hunger pangs at bay

We are going into the party season and in between the glasses of wine and speeches, hunger pangs are bound to remind that you have not eaten for a few hours. Review spoke Success Mabunda, a cook and bake enthusiast, to provide a few tips on what people can quickly put together to keep hunger at bay until meal time.

POLOKWANE – She explained that being in a hurry or wanting something to temporarily fill up the stomach is not an excuse to neglect a healthy diet.

“The first expression of self-love is to mind what goes into your mouth, whether you are going to a function or not,” she said.

A smoothie of kale, green grapes, cucumber, and Granny Smith apples is called the Powergulp and is one of the best drink choices when it comes to looking after your health.

She advised that a healthy filler before going to an event, which will take time before the food is served, is to have a homemade shake because it is a healthier option.

Her advice is to have a healthy snack anytime of the day, homemade is the healthier option.

“Have apple in your shake because apple has a lot of fibre which assists with digestion and helps with skin. Remember, ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’,” she said.

Another alternative if you do not want a liquid option is to have a fruit salad with watermelon, grapes and pawpaw.

This is light and will not fill you to the point of putting you off a full meal later.

“Another healthy snack I recommend is celery, carrots, prunes, apples and strawberry. These can be put together and turned into a delicious quick snack to hold you until lunch or dinner is served,” she said.

Wings are the perfect way to indulge before an actual meal.

For someone who looks to do away with the fruit and vegetables, she recommended crackers and cream cheese. You can also have bread and peanut butter on the go.

Trail mix is also a good filler and can comprise of peanuts, cashews, walnuts and almonds.

You can switch things up by adding dried fruit like raisins, cranberries or apricots.

Pack this into a pack and have on the go or if you feel like breaking the rules, you can have wings which can be either hot or not.

Remember to not overindulge and just have a few.
