Taxi driver hits a paint shop in Tzaneen

Taxi rolls backwards into shop after his brakes allegedly failed.

A taxi driver with four occupants burst through the display window of a paint shop on Thursday evening (7 May) after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle in Danie Joubert Street .

 

 

 

“The taxi driver said his brakes failed as he was driving up the steep slope of the road. He was not able to stop the taxi and the vehicle started to roll backwards crashing into the shop,” said the Letaba Security response team.

 

An employee of the Dulux Paint Cente – House of Paint & Décor, said the accident occurred around 18:30 and he arrived on the scene shortly after an ambulance took some of the passengers to Van Velden Hospital. The driver was still on the scene and was taken away by the police and is believed to be tested for alcohol or other substances.

 

 

The employee said damages include a stack of tiles that was in the display window as well as the window itself that will have to be replaced in its entirety. A security guard will be on duty 24-hours to watch over stock in the shop. Meanwhile, because if the danger of glass, the roller door at the back entrance of the shop will be open for customers.
