Good Samaritan gives lost laptop back to owner
A local young woman has shown that good Samaritans still exist when she gave back the laptop she found in a shopping trolley to it’s owner.
Whitney Tshimbana (24) from Nkowankowa found a laptop in her trolley while she was shopping recently.
“I took the laptop home because I knew there would be something inside the laptop that would help me track the owner.
“When I got home luckily the laptop did not have a password and I was able to access her Microsoft Outlook email. I then emailed her and told her I have her laptop with me. We then arranged to meet in town on Wednesday,” she said.
The young woman received praises from the laptop owner Tig Warne, mall managements and security personnel for her kindness.
“I’m so thrilled and grateful, I did not think I will ever see my laptop again. Whitney getting in touch with me has made me so happy, it is amazing to see that in this day and age where people are stealing and hurting one another, she was kind enough to return the laptop,” said Warne.
Tig said when they (she and her husband) got home on Monday and realised that they had lost the laptop, they went back to the mall and reported the matter.
“When they told us that there was no laptop brought to the office, I lost hope,” she said.

Tzaneng Mall manager Alida Smit said it was the first incident where a lost item was found by a member of the public and tracked back to the owner.
“Shoppers usually hand lost items to the guards and some items we get from trolley porters. It makes me happy to see that there are still people who can actually do good, because there are so many bad things in the news, so seeing something like this warms my heart,” she said.
Smit said when they receive lost and found items they contact the owner.
She said it is difficult to track down shoppers who have lost their groceries. When they fail to find the owner they donate the groceries to the SPCA or any other NGO in need of food.

She advised shoppers to bring lost and found items to the centre management office.
“We have a logbook and we always track down the owners.”
