Another Total Sport robbery in Tzaneen

Police in Tzaneen are investigating another case of business robbery after Total Sports in Tzaneng Mall was robbed at gun point on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the shop’s assistant manager, the incident took place at about 17:24 when a man wearing a black cap and a mask approached her and asked for a a size 10 Puma sneaker from the store room.

“The manager alleges that she went to check as requested, but when she returned the man was joined by two more men also wearing caps and masks.

“One of the men was an old man. Two of the robbers took out firearms and pointed them at employees instructing them to lie down on the floor.

“One of them allegedly forced her into the store room where he instructed her to open the safe. They took all the money in the safe and cash from the till.

“They then left with the cash and sneakers while employees were still lying on the floor. “No shots were fired,” said Sgt Maurice Nkhwashu of Tzaneen Police Station, relating the assistant manager’s version of events.

An investigation is underway. In January two branches of Total Sports (Tzaneen Crossing Mall and Tzaneng Mall) were robbed in the same manner. In the then Tzaneng robbery, five armed robbers fled with cash and cell phones.

In January 2017 Markhams store in Tzaneen Crossing Mall was robbed of cell phones by four armed men who also fled on foot.

On Wednesday, 30 December last year, the Ackermans store in Tzaneen Crossing was also robbed of cell phones and cash by men who fled on foot.
