Update on water shortage in Nkowankowa and surronding areas

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) is pleading with local communities to bear with them, as they try their best to fix the bulk pipe line.

Nkowankowa and nearby communities have been without water for almost three days after the bulk pipe in the Nkowankowa Water Treatment plant was damaged.

According to the municipality the pipe was repaired on Tuesday, however after pumping water for 2 hours the pipe started to leak leading to technicians shutting down the plant to repair the leak.

“Work was done throughout last night to repair the pipe, and it is anticipated that the repair work will be completed by midday and the plant will be restarted.

“If there are no more leaks, pumping will be done throughout the day to fill up the reticulation system.

“Water tankers have been dispatched to supply water in affected areas, and we are working on adding more trucks to cover a wider area.

“To find out where to access a water tanker in your area please contact your ward councillor,” explained Neville Ndlala, GTM spokesman.

However many residents have been complaining that they have not seen any of the tankers in their communities.

“We again apologise for the inconvenience,” Ndlala concluded.
