Kingfisher to teach Robotics and coding

Kingfisher Private School has announced that they are introducing Robotics and Coding into their school curriculum next year.

This comes after the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, announced earlier this month that Robotics and Coding will be part of the South African school curriculum from Grade R to Grade 9 in the near future.

The headmistress of Kingfisher Private School, Renee Rudolph said that various schools teach Coding and Robotics, depending on the availability of funds, trained teachers and time constraints.

“Our school is fortunate enough to have all of these and will therefore be introducing this subject in 2022.

‘It will be taught to Grade 1, Grade 4 and Grade 7, she said.

“Coding and Robotics is aimed at guiding and preparing pupils to solve problems, think critically, work collaboratively and creatively, and function in a digital and information driven world.

“It goes hand in hand and they are becoming a more integral part of the world.

“Pupils will be able to apply ICT and digital skills and to transfer these skills to solve everyday problems.

“This upcoming curriculum will equip pupils to contribute in a meaningful and interesting way in a rapidly changing society,” Rudolph concluded.
