Life changing disease could not keep Admire down

“Although it was not easy, I managed to complete a course in hospitality and going forward I aim to find proper training in confectionery and growing my baking business, I wish to own a successful bakery someday.”

Diagnosed with a rare disease similar to arthritis, Admire Mninginisi’s life changed completely.

The 25-year-old told the Herald said he felt he had been robbed of his youth due to the condition which saw him having limitations to doing normal activities he enjoyed such as soccer and socializing before the diagnosis.

Mninginisi said he had difficulty in accepting his physical state and this drove him to be depressed as he experienced severe swelling on his feet and always spent time indoors.

“I was a very active person and had to stop doing a lot of things and had to rely on assistance from his family.”

He said at first when the condition was in its early stages he did not have to make any changes to his daily routine but later on, it took a toll on him physically and he was bed-ridden.” “I was able to do normal house chores and go to school, but it had an impact on my parents because they had to invest a lot in seeking a solution to the condition.”

“The disease is called pachydermoperiostosis, I am currently on treatment and undergoing regular checkups. I feel much better now and can spot some physical changes and now I have more insight into the condition so it has been easier to accept and look forward”

“This past month I had a visit from the municipality of Giyani and they are currently working on the process of helping me out with needs such as continuing with my studies which were hampered due to the condition and growing my little confectionery business.”

“Although it was not easy, I managed to complete a course in hospitality and going forward I aim to find proper training in confectionery and growing my baking business, I wish to own a successful bakery someday.”

He said anyone can contact him on 071 739 8008 to order baked goods from him in the Giyani area.
