Sammy reunited with family after being lost for over two months

Jessica Naudé and her family are excited to be reunited with their dog, Sammy, who went missing on Saturday, January 1.

According to Jessica the dog ran away from their home after she got a fright from fireworks on New Year’s Eve. “I believe she was traumatised when a bomb firecracker went off. “We couldn’t locate her anywhere, until someone said they saw her on January 12. “We became hopeful that we would soon locate her.”

However, weeks went by without any trace of Sammy, and they started to accept the fact that they will never see her again, Jessica told the Herald. But on Tuesday, March 1, the Phalaborwa Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) was notified of a dog which was roaming around the Foskor Mine terrain.

After getting the necessary permission, the PAWS team managed to set a trap to catch the elusive dog. Fortunately enough, four hours later the team received a call from a security guard at the mine that the dog was trapped. “We were excited to find that indeed it was our little Sammy; she is a miracle dog!” She survived for two months in the bush among wild animals,” explained PAWS’ Andy Condogiannis.

Quinton Bezuidenhout assisted with locating.

Condogiannis sent a word of appreciation to Quinton Bezuidenhout, Daniel the security guard, Billy Grobler and Rudi Grobler for the role they played in rescuing the dog. Meanwhile Jessica said she could never thank the PAWS team enough for all their assistance and for never giving up on Sammy. PAWS is a centre that takes care of dogs and cats without homes and also assists the pets to get new homes.
