Moraka hands over state-of-the-art library in Mavalani

Thandi Moraka, the MEC for the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture officially handed over a multimillion Rand state-of-the-art library to the Mavalani community and surrounding villages in Giyani recently.

The official opening was characterised by ululations from community members and learners.
The new library is situated right in the middle of the village and library users will no longer have to travel to Giyani, the nearest town, to access a library.
“We must encourage our children to read. Through libraries the department is creating an enabling environment for a flourishing reading nation and a wider audience for South African literature.”

She said that the library is provided with books and information technology (IT) equipment to enable free access to the internet for the community.
She added that a library is an important tool in developing communities, keeping the youth off the streets and decrease illiteracy as it installs a culture of reading and learning at the same time.
