Family receives a home from police in Giyani

Only 49 days after the police in Giyani promised a family that they will present them with a new house, they managed to deliver it to the Maluleke family.

On Wednesday, September 14, Brig CKS Serakwana, station commander of the Giyani Police Station, together with his management team, handed over the house to the family in Nsavulani. Serakwana was accompanied by the provincial police commissioner of Limpopo, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe, and the district commissioner of Mopani, Maj Gen Willy Mashava.

The handover was inspired when police visited the family to hand out food parcels. They realised that the family was living in an almost dilapidated house without windows, flooring, proper hygienic facilities, and fencing. Serakwana promised the family that they would return to help the family, a promise he kept after only 49 days, “He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord and He will pay back what he has given,” Serakwana said in his speech at the handing over ceremony.

“Out of their pockets and with determination, Giyani SAPS managed to fence the yard, install windows, a floor, and paint it in collaboration with the Community in Blue members who were also helpful during the construction,” he added. Mashava, the CPF, and the ward councillor also addressed the event before the keynote address was presented by the provincial commissioner who commended the excellent work achieved by the Giyani police.

Highlighting the charitable work displayed by the police, she said that members of the police do not only concentrate on criminal matters but also have a social responsibility towards members of the community. “Not all police officers are corrupt, I know of members who work hard and will not rest until they arrest the criminals. She also referred to the legacy of Nelson Mandela. The police are also committed to bettering the lives of society. I also would like to encourage the public to continue to work hand in hand with the police due to the reduction of criminal cases reported in Nsavulani village.”

The dignitaries then conducted the official opening by handing over the house to the Maluleke family was delighted that the police kept their promise to return to assist, which seemed unbelievable at the time. Hosi Mahumani also spoke at the event and encouraged the community to stand together and unite. He further appreciated Hadebe and her team for the excellent work done. He also pledged to buy a bed and also offered to donate some groceries. Hadebe pledged to purchase a television whilst Mashaba committed to donating a table with chairs to the family.
