Move Rides helps locals with transportation

Two Giyani young men have identified a need for 24-hour transport and started a maxi taxi business.

Nsuku Ndleve and Africa Maluleke started Move Rides to offer residents access to 24-hour transport. “We started in 2020 with one car, I was also driving at the time and Nsuku was still in Gauteng,” says Africa. “I was 24 and Nsuku was 21.” The popularity of their service led them to quickly register another four cars. Currently, Move Rides has a total of 18 cars. The pair says that their aim is to create employment and it was an opportunity for those with a car and license to put food on their families’ tables.

“We help grannies to move around, or when ambulances are delayed, people rely on us to get them to hospitals. We have been able to help with monthly installments for drivers working for us,” he added. They are looking to develop an app for customers to book a ride online; currently, the service is available by calling their business number. They say they have also run into bureaucratic problems and experienced a lack of support from the Greater Giyani Municipality (GGM). He says they have requested GGM to assist in establishing a maxi taxi association.

“We talked to our ward councillor who referred us to the Department of Road and Transport’s offices. We were hoping that GGM could assist us on our behalf,” said Africa. Africa says they are also faced with unregistered drivers claiming to be part of Move Rides. “We are afraid that we might lose our reputation,” he said. He says Move Rides can be identified by a sticker on their cars and customers should be aware of it. “Hopefully these problems can be avoided when we have our app and we can follow our drivers for the safety of our customers.” Contact Move Rides at 081 345 9603.
