The event was held at their Maake campus outside Tzaneen from Monday, May 8 to Thursday, May 12, and was attended by Grade 10 to 12 learners and out-of-school youths. “The open week is an ideal
opportunity for learners to explore the vast range of courses and fields of study at Letaba TVET College,” said Godfrey Mabasa, Letaba TVET spokesperson.

The open week gave an opportunity to high school learners not only to learn about the college’s study programmes, but also about admission requirements, financial assistance, and how to apply. The college’s acting principal, Benjamin Moshoma, encouraged prospective students to enroll in engineering-related courses. “We are proud that we were number one in the country in our trimester results; it shows our commitment to transforming the lives of our people,” he said.

“There is a shortage of artisans in South Africa, our kids must start pursuing scarce and critical careers like boiler-making.” He also encouraged and motivated the youngsters to take advantage of the opportunities that are offered by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and the college. A Grade 12 learner from Ngwambeni High School in N’wamitwa, Ntsako Mabunda, said that it was his first time visiting the educational facility and he is going to use the information he acquired to improve his life.

“I never had an opportunity to visit a higher institution before, I feel inspired and I believe that I am going to do well in my matric. I will definitely apply to Letaba TVET College, I want to study engineering,” he said. Mabasa thanked the stakeholders who contributed to making the event a success and also encouraged learners to work hard and apply for learnerships and bursaries. He concluded by reminding learners to apply online and on time. “No walk-ins or late applications are accepted,” he said.
