Youngsters to fight rabies

Two boys from Willows have been enrolled for certification from the Global Alliance for Rabies Control to teach neighbours and children the importance of vaccinating their dogs against rabies.

Hoedspruit AnimaL Outreach (HALO) posted on their Facebook page that enthusiastic youngsters, Ronnie Tshotlo (16) and Tumisho Ngoma (12), have been helping HALO out during their outreach campaigns by translating.

“They also go around the neighborhood after school checking for new homes to join our outreach programme and report injured or sick animals to us.

“Last Sunday they visited our camp and learned all about the basics of animal kindness, the five freedoms of animals, the different diseases and prevention of dog bites, and understanding the body language of dogs,” stated the post.

“Next month Ronnie and Tumisho are taking their rabies knowledge tests and they are very excited as they both aspire to become vets in the future. “We are blessed to have these motivated youngsters eager to become the local heroes to fight rabies,” they concluded.
